LSU Health New Orleans School of Dentistry teamed up with the Louisiana Dental Association and volunteer dentists from around the country to provide dental services to underserved people in the greater New Orleans area.
Mission of Mercy
LSU Health New Orleans dental faculty, residents, students (DDS, dental hygiene and dental laboratory technology), along with staff, volunteered at the two-day Louisiana Mission of Mercy at the Alario Center.

Preliminary figures indicate that the volunteers managed 1,534 patient visits and delivered $1,067,760.35 worth of free dental care during the outreach event.

As Louisiana's only dental school, LSU Health New Orleans School of Dentistry provided heavy support to the effort.

Services included dental cleanings, exams, x-rays, fillings, extractions, anterior root canals, a limited number of partial dentures, children’s stainless steel crowns and other children’s dental care.
Brett J. King, DDS Assistant Professor, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at LSU Health New Orleans School of Dentistry, organized our dental school's participation.

Our students did everything from directing patients at the front door and sterilizing equipment to assisting in oral surgery and making partials.

It was a rewarding experience for all who participated!
